Dear Helene,
First I would like you to know that I think you are the best thing in the paper. I love your column and can’t wait to read it on Wednesday. I love the way you say it like it is. Your the greatest. Could you please tell me if I will find work soon? My husband has been laid off and we are going to be in trouble pretty, soon if one of us doesn’t get a job. Can you see anything positive for us at all?  Signed Fingers Crossed.

Thanks for the compliment. It does this old heart good to know there are people out there that appreciate the work that I do for the paper. So, for the kind words I can tell you that one of you will be finding work in the very near future. However, my cards say it will be your husband and not you that will find employment. It should also be a good paying (permanent) job in a factory atmosphere. As for you, I don’t see you working until after summer. I think you will be needed at home. Don’t worry, by early Spring you should be doing fine again. Good Luck.

Dear Helen,
It seems nothing positive has resulted from my education or my relationship. Since graduating, I cannot find a decent job. All my friends seem to be doing better than me, even though they didn’t go to school. The young lady that I have been involved with won’t change her life to accommodate me. I have nothing to offer her but debt. Will I get a job soon? Will me and this young lady finally get married in the near future? I desperately want my life to positively change so I can be in the same happy state as my friends. They deserve it and so do I. Signed, Feeling Blue.

Oh sweetie, you need to shake up your life a bit. This years word for you should be change (in all things). I feel if you stay in this immediate area you will not find the type of work you are looking for. If you spent all that time, energy and money in your education, then by golly make it work for you. You need to look further away because I feel that is where your future lays. Like I said, I feel change is all around you and you need to follow it. This also includes the young lady you have been seeing. She won’t “accommodate” you simply because she doesn’t want to. There is more to this that she is not telling you. You are not the catch of the season right now while you have nothing to offer. I feel it will take you at least another year to be establish and working full time. I don’t think your lady friend is going to wait that long. My advise to you is to seek your fame and fortune in a larger city.
